Preparation for the summer school began weeks beforehand, starting with the most exciting of our projects this year - a full and complete renovation of the top floor of the building! That’s right! We now have 4 extra classrooms plus a Common Room filled with board games, a TV and seating space for our students to enjoy. The first day of the summer course was Tuesday 1st July, which kicked off by showing the students around and getting them excited about our Summer Social Program - nicknamed Friday Funday - of days out experiencing the many cultural spots of Liverpool and our Summer Challenge aimed at giving them new and exciting ways of engaging with their English studies. The atmosphere was great! We love having new students around the school and they were all very enthusiastic, which makes the teachers very happy! :) Here are some of our favourite moments this summer.
Our much anticipated first week. Top of the agenda was learning everyone’s names and making sure all the students knew where they were supposed to be, so there was a lot of running up and down the stairs to the fourth floor which was good cardio for everyone! The Friday Funday event this week was the breakfast meetup and tour of Liverpool, which included Central Library where we went to the viewing deck to spot the Liver Birds and the other buildings of the Liverpool cityscape as well as St George’s Hall, where we saw the court-room, prison cells and The Great Hall. Our students had a great time exploring these places and asked many questions which kept us on our toes! (photo on steps of St Georges Hall/China Town)?
Our Junior Course begins! We were really happy to welcome our new junior students from different parts of the world. Their weekly topic was Music which they studied with their teachers, Ashley and Stacy during the week, then we took them to the British Music Experience in the Cunard Building on Funday Friday. It was a terribly rainy day, but luckily we had our umbrellas and ponchos to keep us dry! Spirits were high in spite of the weather, as the students toured the musical memorabilia of the most influential decades of music and enjoyed playing with the musical instruments at the end of the tour. Next, we went to the Cavern Club, where we listened to a musician play under that iconic brickwork arch… We could have stayed all day!
Our summer is in full swing! We have already said ‘Goodbye’ to some of our new students from the beginning of the summer, but many have stayed on and we have many more who have joined. We have the Liverpool Museum challenge and a cruise on the Mersey Ferry to look forward to this Friday Funday and this time, we got a lovely sunny day to enjoy it! The students split into teams to begin the selfie challenge in the museum, each starting on a different floor as they raced to finish. They made it back to meet in the lobby and we even had enough time for a snack in the cafe before catching the ferry. It was great to see our students bonding over such a fun day out.
A special thanks to all our students who helped to make this summer what it was - we hope to see you all next year!
